SPOT Tracking Satellite Messenger

Avantura provides rental and sales services for large event tracking. SPOT MESSENGERThis  section is also dedicated to SPOT users who use tracking and like to share their trip story and SPOT page with the others. That would be most of us, really! In fact, although most people buy SPOT as the emergency back up to satellite phone, tracking is the most popular feature. So much so, that we're yet to sell SPOT that hasn't been activated in the tracking mode!

There are those amongst us who go on remote trips into the wilderness precisely to get away from all the gadgetry and connections with the civilization. Heck, some of us go out of our way to make sure nobody knows where we are. Overall, such individuals are more an exception then the rule. Most of us delight in the opportunity to share our adventures with family and friends. There is something magical in knowing that folks at home can follow your progress down the river, up the mountain - or whatever! It's also reassuring to have an effective way to communicate any emergency to the either dedicated group of friends or Search & Rescue team.

How does tracking work?

With tracking turned on, SPOT transmits a small message every ten minutes. The message contains information about your location and is picked by the constellation of Globalstar's low-orbiting satellites and conveyed to the ground station server. SPOT's internet servers wrap the message in the Google Map and send according to the instructions you specified in your SPOT account.

At the more advanced level, you may want to see multiple tracks in the single screen interface. An instructor in orienteering would prefer to see all his 50 cadets scattered through the woods of Northern Ontario on the single screen, rather then having to open 50 separate browser windows. Long distance canoe, bike, dog sled etc. races are another good example. Take a look at the Kiwi Brevet, a famous bicycle race held annually at New Zealand. This excellent customization was created by our partner, Trackleaders. They specialize in tracking many famous events worldwide, like Yukon Quest, Great Divide MBR, Hiram's Haul, Iditarod Trail Invitational and others. This is accomplished by combining multiple SPOT locations onto one map for easier group event tracking. Trackleaders also track individual trips and provide long distance trail trackers like Continental Divide Trail, Appalachian Trail and others.
